'Rap God' Eminem Earns 2013 Best-Selling Album Honors in Canada for 'Marshall Mathers LP 2'

Eminem eclipsed Celine Dion for Canada's best-selling album of the year, moving 242,000 copies in the country, according to Nielsen SoundScan Canada and Billboard.

The 41-year-old rapper's Marshall Mathers LP 2 narrowly edged out Dion's Loved Me Back to Life, which sold 231,000 copies. The rest of the top ten comprised of Imagine Dragons, Mumford & Sons, Pink, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, the Lumineers, Michael Buble and One Direction.

Overall album sales dropped six percent in Canada from 2012 to 2013, according to the report.

It was recently reported by TMZ that the "Rap God," was offered a substantial contract from NFL owners to perform at a private Super Bowl party, but according to the gossip site's sources, Em was looking for a massive paycheck for his services. Fellow hip-hop titan Kanye West also turned down a lucrative offer to perform at the event, TMZ reports.

"The Monster" rapper reportedly demanded $2 million, while West asked for $1 million for the event.

With the overwhelming appeal he's proved he can still fetch with MMLP2, maybe the request wasn't as crazy as it sounds.

The album achieved certified platinum status just two weeks after its release, according toBillboard.

Eminem secured 792k sales in its debut week, which made the climb to 1 million records sold relatively easy the following week. The MMLP2 track "Berzerk" snagged platinum honors back in October and the Rihanna-assisted track "The Monster" followed it up a few weeks later. The duo previously hit 11-times platinum status with their track "Love the Way You Lie."

The Detroit native has been a force on the singles charts, with four tracks featured simultaneously in the top 20 and ten featured on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart shortly after the album's release. Slim Shady's new hits make him the first artist since the Beatles in 1964 to have placed four songs concurrently on the Billboard Top 20 chart, a feat that also helped him pass the legendary rockers for the title of best selling artist of the past decade.

His top single, "The Monster" featuring Rihanna lead the album's top 20 singles, followed by "Rap God," Berzerk," "Survival," "Beautiful Pain," "Love Game," "Headlights," "Bad Guy," "Rhyme or Reason," and "Legacy."

Marshall Mathers LP 2 gives Em seven number one albums, with his only miss being Curtain Call: The Hits, which peaked at number two.

According to Billboard, Eminem is the fifth artist to have ten singles on the chart simultaneously since it adopted its "current sales/airplay/streaming methodology" 13 months ago. The other four are also rappers: Drake (who has done it four times), Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz.
